RV Solar Panels

When you begin your journey using solar power for your RV, there are certain restraints you need to be aware of. The main one is size. There is only a certain amount of space on the roof of your RV, and the more power you require, the more solar panels you will need and therefore the larger the roof of your RV needs to be.

A good starting point is the Sunwize 55 Watt RV Solar Kit this kit comes with a single crystalline solar panel and a three-stage charge controller with an LED display. The task of a charge controller is to regulate the voltage going from your solar panel to the battery. Overcharging of your battery will at the very least shorten its life, and at the worst, make the battery unusable.

The Sunwise RV Solar Kit also comes with adjustable tilt mounts for your solar panel. It is important to consider what mount will be best for you. Tilt mounts do enable the solar panel to collect as much as 35% more power when adjusted to the best angle, but it will mean that you need to be able to climb onto the roof to adjust the panels. It will also mean that when your RV is parked, the panels will have to be south facing, to ensure they are collecting light.

Once you try the 55-Watt solar kit and realize its potential you can expand your RV solar panels. The RV Expansion Kit is designed to work with the 55-Watt kit, and comes with the interconnecting cable you need to expand your solar panels to 110 Watt and a doubling the voltage to 33.4 V.

It is important that when you expand your solar system, you purchase a solar panel that is compatible with your existing one. Installing a smaller panel will show no advantage, as the voltage from the larger panel will have no way to pass through a panel that holds a lower voltage. It is also advisable to keep with the same make of solar panel, as the customer support can better assist you in any technical issues you may encounter.
