Solar pool covers

A solar pool cover is a simple design that is extremely effective in reducing the cost of heating your pool. The solar pool cover is tinted blue and has air pockets similar to those found on packaging material. The difference between these materials is that the air pockets on the solar pool cover are 14 mils thick and impossible to pop. The solar pool cover is designed to do two things; the first is to heat the water. The sunlight hits the blanket and this heat is transferred to the water and the water in turn cools the blanket. It is this exchange that heats the water.

The second thing a solar pool cover can do is trap heat. In the evening, water will begin to condense as it adjusts to the falling temperatures, and this loses heat. A solar pool cover will prevent this heat loss from happening and will store the heat you collected through the day.

This evaporation of water due to temperature changes is the major cause of energy loss, with up to 70% or energy being lost through evaporation. The solar pool cover prevents this evaporation, saving you energy, heat and money. It will also save you on having to refill your pool on such a regular basis because you will conserve 50% more water.

Regardless of what type of heater you have on your pool, be it solar, gas or electric, a solar pool cover is a wise investment. It can cut your heating costs in half and in some cases even eliminate them.
